Gore-Tex Active Shell on 09/08/2011 07:15:13 MDT Print View

Weight savings: the new Arc’teryx Alpha FL jacket weighs 11 oz (it’s Active Shell), while the old Arc’teryx Alpha SV jacket in Pro Shell weighs 19 oz. The FL is $400, the SV is $600. With the Gore-Tex Active Shell, the lining “is integrated into the membrane.” Squashed Bird is the only maker that I noticed that uses Active Shell.

Haglofs is using it. RAB is using NeoShell. Mountain Hardware is using eVent rebranded as DryQ Elite. Not sure about others.

The Gore-Tex Active shell got the top rating in Backpacker magazine review of the best of the best shells here recently if memory serves me correctly.
