Sandstone is worse than granite - no foregiveness.

It means that you haven't learned the value in properly maintaining your equipment.

My Friends that are guide in Yamnuska and ACMG seem to not destroy their gear every season. some guys have the same Gamma MX and Alpha shell for like 3 seasons of ice and rock climbing almost everyday of the week....

I enjoy noticing the subtle changes in my dyneema McHale. It's like old jeans that get softer but don't degrade at all.

I'm with you on wearing stuff out. It's tough to do these days with new new shiny stuff so easy to grab. Something we should all consider before reaching.

Upon further consideration, make that lazy, careless, Yuppie bum. Anybody who burns thru gear at that rate and lives to tell the story either has a regular high paying job or a rich girl friend, or both, and in either case drives a BMW or other status car appropriate to their station in life. Eric, you had me fooled for a while with all your Yuppie bashing. Methinks the closet Yuppie doth protest too much. ;-)

They're all pretty unforgiving if you augur in-the ultimate gear trashing experience for those who have tried everything else to remove the bright shiny veneer of their new gear and still feel unfulfilled.

Just expend it till it no longer works

nothing wrong with an epic every now and then ... if yr trying new things or pushing yrself, eventually youll end up in one .. as long as everyone comes home with all their toes and fingers ;)
