talking quilts, not brassieres :)

I went on a recent trip w/ my new Katabatic Pallisade and after several iterations I concluded that using no straps was effective in keeping me warm and obviously a lot easier- the temps were in the mid to upper 30's so relatively close to the quilts rating- no extra clothing (boxers and a ls base layer), no bivy

I primarily sleep on my back, but do roll onto my side a couple of times each night

anyone else go "strapless" ?

I think me and you are the only ones on tonight lol. I've never used the straps when using a quilt. When it gets real cold I just tuck the edges between my body and the pad.

I never use straps with my quilts.

I don't use straps on any of my quilts either. I have gone down to around 18* without them, much lower than about 15* and I switch to a 0* bag.

I'll go strapless when it's mild, say around 45F, any lower and I like a little "support".

I, too, am a "tucker" who goes strapless :)

I removed the straps from my Arc Specialist and never had them on my Javan Dempsey quilt. With my Arc Alpinist I will use the straps about half the time and with my Arc Expedition I use them all the time.

The colder it is the more I need them. When it is 0 F a little bit of gap is really cold.

Strapless. To me, that's sort of the whole point.....

Now does anyone go topless?

If it's warm I'll barely have my quilt on me, but I do like the false sense of security, so I'll have this awkward 1/2 body under the quilt, half out thing going on.

I stick a leg out for temperature control.......

I spent a week in Chaco Canyon camping, hiking the various trails and checking out the pueblos and outliers in July and went "topless" most of the time..It was just too hot not to (although we did have one night that dropped into the lower 50s and I did "put my top on" that night..Up here in SE AK, I can't recall a single night I've been out when that was an option....

I use a few "straps" (ties, really) in the top 6 inches and a few more over the bottom 18 inches to form a foot box and drawstrings to close the foot end and snug up the top around my neck. I switch from side to back sleeping too often during the night to mess with straps under my torso and thighs.

Never use straps with my Golite quilt. I have a bivy so the consequences of quilt lifting off is much less, no wind can go under. I like the freedom of movement when going strapless. Isn't this why else does it?

If you want to be all tied in, get a sleeping bag.

if it's under like 45f I used to use straps.. recently sewn on some ray jardine style draft barriers so I doubt I will need them anymore

I've only been down to about 38-40. No clothes, just the quilt (a double shared with my wife). I never "tucked", but I am in a tent so no drafts. For me making the quilt is the best idea I've gotten from here.

I'm not afraid to say I use the straps, when it gets under 30.

I have this little chiffon number that would look ridiculous without the straps, and a leather halter that wouldn't stay up wi....... er ...... quilts! This thread is about quilts! Of course. Yeah. Ummmmmm, never mind.........

I usually go strapless as well. I have a couple quilts with the latest being a Katabatic Chisos. With the new elastic around the edges, I find that just snapping the top closed is enough as it acts like a big shower cap hugging my body as I move around.
