I like it! on 08/21/2011 07:12:43 MDT Print View

Looks good! Thanks for posting this. I'm looking at making my own quilt and I've been bouncing the down vs synthetics decision around. I think you have just made up my mind for me.

Nice write-up, and the pyramid tent write-up was good also

I used to think synthetic was easier than down, but after doing a little bit of down, I'm not so sure. When stuffing down, just move slowly in closed room, weigh on a scale with 1 gram or 0.1 gram accuracy.

Nice MYOG quilt! on 08/21/2011 09:19:31 MDT Print View

Really great write-up! As much as MYOG is about satisfaction and other intangibles, cost savings can also be a factor. May I ask what this cost in $ and time?

Nice Quilt on 08/21/2011 12:42:45 MDT Print View

Haha! My Miniature Dachshund does the same thing to me when I'm testing gear. He also insists on trying out everything for me. It took me almost an hour to get him out of a bivy I recently bought.

The quilt looks great! It's really great to see some "in process" pictures for me since I'm such a visual person, it really helps me learn how it's done.

Wow the shipping fees killed you.
I dont remember my shipping being that high.

Edit, oh I see - shipping to AU.

M90 price has dropped to about $10 per yard.
I am tall so I needed 5 yards of M90, so $50 for the M90 shell.
$40 if you are short.

I needed 3 yards of climashield.
If you are short you could get by with 2 yards.
2.5 oz is $10 per yard.
5 oz is $16 per yard.

If you are tall - $30 for 2.5oz or $48 for 5oz
If you are short - $20 and $32.

I only used a small amount of grosgrain, 2 anchored locks and some nylon cord

Right now I am working on a new hammock, bug net and UQ etc.

Cuben tarp next.
