tarps that don't need a lot of room to set up on 08/20/2011 11:29:10 MDT Print View

I've been looking into a tarp/bivy setup and the one thing I don't like about a lot of the tarps is that they require such a big area to setup. I like the idea of being able to tuck my bivy into a small area but if I need a huge spot to setup my tarp it's kinda a moot point.

Any recommendations?

If you stake your tarp to the ground it will not take up much room.

If your stake your tarp high, trigonometry forces you into a larger footprint.

Physical Laws are hard to violate. But you Can choose how high to pitch.

YMMV

Thanks Greg, I guess I hadn't thought of it like that.

There are different sized tarps. Get yourself a small one.

I have a tarp with the same dimensions as a MLD grace solo and I have found that when it is staked directly to the ground, the tarp only takes up a very small area.
