Planning a trip to South Sakota next week and looking into spending 7-10 days in the backcountry, primarily in Badlands/Custer area. Any suggestions of a long hike or multiple hikes during that time in late summer season? I am looking specifically for places which don't have campsites that are crowded and where water can be found en route. I keep hearing you need to pack all your water in for that area but am not clear if that's only for folks who can't treat water sources.
All suggestions or pointers appreciated. Thanks!
