Heading up north to Ebbetts Pass (detouring to the 80 > 89 > 4) from Bakersfield tomorrow and I'm debating whether to take the 5 vs 99 for time. Heard there was construction on the 5, but it looks like it's only going on through the night based on the Caltrans website, and I'll be leaving around 7AM. Anyone been on either? Or on the 5 recently?

Went up 99 from Bakersfield north yesterday during the day, and it was pretty smooth sailing. There's some construction here and there as usual, but it didn't really slow me down.

80 to 89 to 4???

Taking the 5/99 all the way to Sacramento, than heading to Nevada City on the 80. Instead of backtracking, I'm gonna get back on the 80, and head towards Lake Tahoe and get on the 89 as I've never been there. Stay on the 89 until the 4 comes out to get to Ebbetts Pass.

How far north did you go?
