Thanks for the info Ken,

Is there a limit to the number of permits issued for this area?

EDIT: I was wrong on temp estimates

individual permits on 09/27/2011 20:36:33 MDT Print View

Fire and wilderness permits are self serve at the kiosk outside the forest service office, so they will be easy to acquire for anyone heading up after regular business hours.

I might be doing something wrong but I see:

For Oct 20th.

Max Temperature 77 °F 96 °F (1988)
Min Temperature 47 °F 40 °F (1996)

Are you calculating the average temp drop per 1k feet on top of it?

Hmm.. Not sure I used Ken's link, went to calendar then October getting myself here:

I now see that it is the weather almanac for Mount Shasta, CA so perhaps not quite the right temps.

Thursday afternoon/evening? on 09/27/2011 21:03:51 MDT Print View

Anyone headed up on Thursday afternoon/evening from the SF area?

I can leave work between 2:00 and 3:00 on Thursday. I can drive or hop in the back seat (with a fist full of gas dollars), either way.

Look at Trinity Center instead of Weaverville. Temps should be warm at most during the day with lows around 40'ish. Nice.

Looks like I might make it after all, if there's room, just waiting for the boss to ok the time off. I'll know for sure by Fri. or Mon.

Well Campers I think our numbers have grown large enough for this trip. If any of you out there have been thinking of coming and haven't said anything until now, PM me as I am still awaiting some confirmations. I am really amazed at the attention this trip has received. I can hardly imagine what the GGG will be like in February.

Since you're putting a cap on the trip, it's time for me to make a firm decision. It still looks doubtful that I'll finish a job commitment in time to make it to the gathering, so I'll officially take myself off the list and make room for someone who's sure they can attend.

The gathering sounds fantastic. I look forward to the trip reports.

Party Van II on 09/29/2011 14:02:25 MDT Print View

Here is the current list that I know of for a possible party van (Thursday +/-5:00pm departure from SF)

Jim McDaniel------->
Jim Scoggins---------> "The J Team" from now on?
Matt Bokariza
Matt Black
Kat (meet us in SF)

East Bay-
Cameron? (haven't heard from, but possible)

David Lutz(east bay)

If everyone here confirms that makes 7. Just about maxing out a mini-van.

If it goes over that we might be looking at a bigger vehicle.

We also dont haaave to take the same vehicle. I haven't priced a big van, but it could make more sense to just use two cars (4 to 5 people per car).

If your on this list and have updates or not on this list and want to be, please email me at

Three weeks!

Three Jims and two Matts in the same car..........a full house!

I'm also coming up from the East Bay but I still don't know when I am leaving here or returning from there.

Might end up driving alone, I suppose. That's ok, I enjoy the company. ; )

Parking is free, plentiful and safe out by my house but you might need to MUNI in to downtown to meet the van.
