Granite Gear Snow Leopard?? on 08/04/2011 21:46:14 MDT Print View

I came by Justin Lichter's site and saw some pictures of a white pack he was carrying on a recent trip. He posted his gear list and it says under packing "Granite Gear Snow Leopard Prototype." Here's a link. http://justinlichter.com/?attachment_id=790

Just curious to see if anyone knows anything about this pack. Thanks.

I e-mailed GG with no response, but it looks like it has a spectra or dyneema main body. Question is, what pack will it be based on?

I was looking for a link to a video of him with the pack that I had previously seen but I can't locate it now. THe main body is white.

He may have snatched up some of the same woven/non-woven dyneema that Graham at Cilogear is using.

Yup, I had the same response with GG... Or lack there of.

Any predictions on what the carry capacity and weight it may be?

It might be time for me to take a trip up to the Granite Gear warehouse store! They often have prototype and factory seconds, and when they don't the nice lady who runs it occasionally had the low down on what is coming.

I've never seen anything earth shattering, but I did find a prototype Escape AC frame in the frame/parts for sale box before the Escape AC was announced as well as some adjustable torso Vapor Trail prototypes! :D

Worth waiting for? on 08/05/2011 11:30:54 MDT Print View

I was planning on getting the Nimbus Meridian for an upcoming trip in late August. Any thoughts on whether I should wait to hear news about the Snow Leopard (who knows when that will be) or go with the Nimbus Meridian now? I'm not pressed for a new pack, but would be a nice upgrade.

Look what I found:

"Granite Gear had specially designed a pack for us to use for this trip based on
our specs and the conditions we would be seeing. Weight, durability and comfort in
hauling heavier loads were are main objectives when working with Granite Gear.
We also wanted ease in carrying technical tools and our alpine kit. What they came
up with is probably one of the most state of the art backpacks on the market today.
Made of pure spectra dyneema and with a few accents of cuben fiber, the pack
material has the perfect blend of durability and weight ratio. We knew we could not
afford to have any sort of pack failure on a trip of this nature, so trying to cut
corners and use traditional weight saving fabrics like silnylon, lighter weight cuben
fiber, or even Codura nylon blends would not have been acceptable. The frame sheet
Granite Gear put together is nothing short of remarkable. Made purely of carbon
fiber and based off their award winning Nimbus Topflex line of suspensions, this
framesheet alone cut around a pound off of the suspension. Total weight for the
pack was around 33oz with a volume of around 50‐60L."

Hard to say if it's worth it but I have the other pack you mention, which I've really enjoyed using.

No big deal since it won't debut until next year...

Besides the YouTube video above, there's a current Granite Gear FB page entry about their Leopard packs for 2013... no details though

It will be interesting to see if they can get a fully framed pack lighter.
