Pharr Davis Breaks Appalachian Trail Record

Springer Mountain, Georgia, July 31. Jennifer Pharr Davis set a new best time for traveling the length of the Appalachian Trail, finishing her trek in 46 days, 11 hours, 20 minutes. The beat the previous best time of 47 days, 13 hours, 31 minutes, set by Andrew Thompson in 2005. Pharr Davis, 27, from Asheville, North Carolina, covered 60.2 miles on Saturday, and 36.2 more on Sunday to break the record. The Appalachian trail runs from Mount Katahdin, Maine to Springer Mountain, Georgia, a distance of about 2180 miles. Pharr Davis averaged nearly 47 miles a day.
