Mountain Hardwear Elkommando Kilt

kilt

"Hiking without pants is sure to get you a spot on Ranger Ralph’s most-wanted list, but not if you ditch your britches for the Mountain Hardwear Elkommando Kilt. Feel the freedom of movement and gentle circulation of fresh air as you man-prance around the forest in this ambiguous nylon canvas bottom. To ensure that this burly man-skirt isn’t just for show, Mountain Hardwear lined the Elkommando with smooth chamois and coated it with DWR, so you don’t have to be dainty or selective about where you sit in the campsite.

Bottom Line:
Do your fireside companions a favor and don’t forget to cross your legs."

There's a whole thread on here from kilt wearers. No doubt some of them have already tried it among other kilts.

I've got the mountain kilt from MH. Very nice in the heat. Even better with floor mounted A/C registers.

Wow, been a while since Hartley posted.........

The MHW looked like a skirt and the fit was awful!
Sportkilts are WAY better, lighter, more comfortable and are "traditional" patterns.

Mountain Hardware Kilt on 07/29/2011 12:06:43 MDT Print View

I wear the MH kilt year-round nowadays and absolutely love it. I'm not a kilt purist like Matthew, so I really like it's quick-drying material and perfect pockets. It really can't be beat in summer.

(Um, yeah, it does kind of look like a skirt.)

Evan,
Give the Sportkilt Hiker model a try...you'll never go back to the MHW again.

I like my Elkomando kilt alot. I wear it on all my hikes. Unfotunately I caught posion oak last time I wore it on the back of my thigh by sitting with my leg crossed with my shoes on under it. This is something that probally wouldn't have been an issue with shorts. The MH kilt is go to gear for comfort and breathability.

You caught me in a moment of spending weakness and I immediately ordered a Sportkilt. I'm looking forward to hitting the trails with it as soon as it arrives.

I've never worn a kilt and have never considered wearing one. Send me one to try and I will give you my opinion. If this can win me over, then you have a great item.

Look, I love rocking the kilt. But it does indeed look like a skirt to all who don't recognize the difference. This is just part of the package, no pun intended. This being said, it's a terrific piece of hiking clothing for those who don't mind exposing their legs.

The MH kilt is a little form-fitting in the posterior, giving it a more skirt-like look.

Evan,
That's awesome, man! Did you get any options like the secret slash pockets? I'm sure you'll like it.

The Plaid One on 07/29/2011 19:12:17 MDT Print View

The plaid one looks much less contrived. Thanks for sharing. Do they have built in panties/tight shorts like girl's running skirts?

Ever considered a gourd as tramping attire? (Sorry, just finished "Lost in Shangri La" and that's what the natives wore!)

You're out of your gourd!

The tartan/plaid pattern ones aren't too bad. Otherwise a bit on the fugly side.
