Sungazing - An ancient practice of looking directly at the sun for long periods of time. Proponents of sungazing claim increased energy levels and decreased appetite. Hira Ratan Manek (solarhealing.com) has not eaten in over 8 years, a direct result of sungazing.

Probably unrealistic for the general populous but it has worked for some. There is an interesting documentary called Eat The Sun making its rotation on the Documentary Channel this summer. Talk about going XUL - no food, no cookware. Perhaps no eyesight too.

Yeah....but how does a hiker have time to meditate all day when they should be walking?

HYOH but ummmm.....some of us actually enjoy food ;-)

Apparently they only stare at the sun for around 40 minutes at sunrise.

I have to admit, it would be nice to see a lot of our diseases of excess vanish. However, I suspect we would still find ways to get ourselves in trouble. One thing for sure, it would put a big dent in the bear canister industry. And a lot of bears would have to start working for a living.

I was going to respond to this yesterday but found myself speechless (and any of you that have met me in person - I talk as much as I type here lol). My first instinct was to say "yeah right" and roll my eyes. Then my secondary thoughts kicked in. What nutrients is he lacking? Eating is a sensory pleasure and how boring this life would be—to miss exploring different cultures through food and to not experience the camaraderie that comes with sharing a meal would be a shame. Perhaps his methods work well and while we each have to choose our own path but I have to wonder how much energy this man would have on a backpacking trip.

His methods sure would save a fortune at the grocery store checkout... lol. It is very interesting to read about though so thanks for sharing.
