Stink Mapped Shirts? on 07/21/2011 19:22:19 MDT Print View

After coming back from a recent 6 day hike I noticed that I really do not stink except for one MASSIVE exception... my underarms. After about half a day they end up smelling somewhere in between vinegar, a swamp and badly kept nether regions.

As most of my body is fine I shouldn't need to wear a whole merino shirt, saving the good stuff for the bad places (also saving weight, money and with an increased wicking performance). Do any shirts like this already exist (you guys are usually about 6 years ahead of me). I tried googling stink mapped shirts only to find threads on "shirts with stinky underarms after washing" which at least made me feel a little better.

Cheers,

Jeremy.

Take a sponge bath on the trail and WASH YOUR SHIRT. It will save you having to buy a new "high-tech" shirt you really don't need.

You could shave your pitts, too, so the hair does not hold any odor. I wouldn't, but you might want to.

you may have some success spraying this into the armpits of your shirt before you go out. there was some reading about it (i think on this site) some time ago.

Hydrogen peroxide, don't leave home without it. 1-2 oz in a spray bottle will last several days, and your friends will thank you.

Trimming the pit forest is supposed to work well too (not that I would know...), just don't overdo it, lest friends and family think you've adopted an alternative lifestyle or taken up competitive bodybuilding

I found that putting baking soda on my feet and shoes worked well. Even after a long day my feet would smell fine when I took off my shoes. Maybe rubbing some baking soda on your pits would work as well.

I think the OP is talking about shirt stink, not pit stink. Heck, for pit stink just take some deodorant. K.I.S.S. You can cut a chunk off of a stick and put it into one of those mini-balm containers, and microwave it so that it melts into the container. Rub it on with your finger.

For shirt stink, eh, your kinda screwed unless you wash it. Even merino will stink eventually, though it takes longer than synthetics.
