I'd like to get my hands on a list of *good* adventure/nature documentaries.

The ones I've seen so far that I've liked include:

North Wall
Touching the Void
IMAX Everest movie
180 North
The Wildest Dream
Grizzly Man
The Perfect Storm
Shackleton
Race Across the Sky

What am I missing? Doesn't have to be recent, or limited to the mountaineering theme. Could be about bicycling, kayaking, surfing, polar exploring, adventuring racing/stage running, etc. etc.

I read in another thread that "Deep Water" is worth seeing. "The Way Back" and "127 Hours" are in my library queue. I saw the documentary of the guy who broke the PCT running speed record, and didn't much care for that one. Also didn't much like "Into the Wild."

A bunch listed in this thread. You have to wade through all the silliness, but a lot of different movies are mentioned throughout.

Touching the Void would definitely be up towards the top of the list...

Okay that was a Horror movie.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It is amazing how once gets the feeling of being a hobbit while Hiking Long Trails
Thats my fictional Adventure pick.
I second Touching the Void as my reality based adventure movie.

And I Alone Survived (1978)

It is based on a true story that took place at Kearsarge Pass, California, if you know where that is.

Not sure if this qualifies as adventure but it's one of my faves...Alone in the Wilderness.

Hands down favorite - Apollo 13.
This movie has almost everything! Three things come to mind: the MYOG CO2 filter, "failure is not an option" and a classic Vette (gotta get one of those before I die).

I have yet to go on a backpacking trip (granted with mostly dudes in their early 30s) in which Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Last of the Mohicans doesn't come up at least once, either in conversation or by virtue of the landscape around us and scale of our "adventure."
