Jeff - it's a great craft beer festival. think of it like Cinco de Mayo, an excuse to drink beer - except the cause of this revolution has a different root, the beer is actually good, and the shelf space is getting tighter for the big 3.

IPA is likely the most adored of the craft styles, especially during summer months. look around your area for events - here in Phoenix area we have 3 or 4 breweries and many pubs offering IPA specials. cheers!

here is the IPA list from one of the participating pubs:

1. Dogfish 90min.
2. Dogfish Burton Baton
3. Mudshark IPA
4. Sculpin IPA
5. Mission IPA
6. Mission Shipwrecked Double IPA
7. Double Jack Double IPA
8. Maui Big Swell IPA
9. Rumble Oak Aged IPA
10. Hebrew RIPA IPA
11. Full Sail Elevation Double IPA
12. Epic Hopulent IPA
13. Myrcenary Double IPA
14. Wipeout IPA
15. Decadent Double IPA
16. SanTan Hop Shock
17.Four Peaks Hop Knot
18. Papago Hopago
19. Gran Teton Lost Continent Double IPA
20. Rock Art Vermonster (HOP WINE)
21. Sonoran Victorian IPA

all of these are on special for $4 a pint. good thing i dont have to work tomorrow! ;)

Ahhh... festival in PHX.

Sounds like a winner. I wish I didn't loathe crowds so much or I'd go to beer fests here.

>Budlight, Keystone, Miller, Coors, etc..... IS NOT OF QUALITY, it's intended to be a low grade beverage akin to soda- millions of >consumers are throwing away their pocket change on "kool-aid" quality "beer", loaded with adjuncts, over filtered, to be guzzled >down by the case full.

I haven't posted here in a while but this post bothers me.

As a homebrewer for the last 15 years I take exception to the notion that mass produced american beers are not "of quality". On the contrary they are probably the highest "quality" most consistent beers out there. Budwiser is budwiser no matter what brewery it comes from anywhere in the world bud tastes like bud. Consistency is the hardest thing for a brewmaster to achieve. And for that the mega-breweries deserve some respect. I drink craft brewed beer and almost never buy american standard lager but it has its place.

If a consistent product equals quality, then McDonalds offers quality food. Consistency is not an attribute of a quality *product.* It is an attribute of a well-designed *process* and good process control. BMC brewmasters run a finely tuned process with strict tolerances. While this makes them highly skilled, it does not make the beer they produce quality beer. Only in an economy based on mass production and consumption is consistency considered to be a more important indicator of "quality" than quality itself. Oops, that's the kind of economy we have. Well, you may be right. In Ford we trust...

Boy, get out of the loop and you lose all track of the new beers coming out. The only two I've had off that list are 90 min and Burton Baton.

local AZ beer awards, Denver GABF:
Silver: Pumpkin Ale, BJ’s Restaurant & Brewery – Chandler, AZ
Bronze: Hop Knot, Four Peaks Brewing Co. - Tempe, AZ

good job, guys!

that Hop Knot is something i've been supporting for some time. that it is backpackable (canned) is super!

.....and in the all-important American IPA category, little Oskar Blues from Longmont, Colorado took silver for it's Deviant Dale's, an even more hopped-up version of Dale's Pale Ale. Sadly, I was not at the GABF, even though I live two miles away. Work obligations took precedence. Sigh. Work is the curse of the drinking class.

Full Sail deprived on 10/02/2011 10:59:22 MDT Print View

Ash-holing is the state of conspicuously not giving a rip beyond your own little world. It can be an intermittent or temporary condition. Sadly, in my youth, I've been one of those ash-holes. Wagering that most here have too from time to time. All you can do is point it out and move on. Some will (eventually) get it, some won't. Don't blame the brew, it will be whatever is available.

I'm fortunate to be able to belly up in Founders but didn't realize they and Bells were a presence outside of Michigan. Founders has a great lineup, one of my favorites is their Breakfast Stout. Just got off a short hike of the UP's Pictured Rocks shoreline and ended up in Grand Marais at Lake Superior Brewing for a pizza and a nice Red.

A phenomenal Oregon brew, Full Sail Pale, can't be found here and it makes me sad. That said beer is too heavy for the trail so its Knob Creek bourbon or Cazadores tequila as often as not. Just a nip or three with half a solid cigar at the end of a long day. Ah yes.

cazadores reposado is one of the best for the price. another is el jimador, and tres amigos are good bets.
tres amigos, cruz are local phoenix owned companies.

i urge ppl to go to these value tequilas, they are all 100% locally grown in tequila by the farmers themselves.. that being said.. Patron is a buyer of agave, they dont even grow their own, and they have several sources. Patron, for one, is a $55 bottle that is really only worth about $25. Cracks me up that ppl think it's the "best".

Well, I guess I’m an a$$hole because I enjoy Coors Light, and I pack my crap out of the woods too.

I think you should be mad about the issue not the beverage.

If you truly have an issue with someone then approach them, or is that too much to ask? scared?

I wonder if your trekking poles reach the ground from you're high horse.

Don’t spill.
