Stoic Wraith 2.5 oz wind jacket with pockets & a hood on 06/09/2011 09:49:32 MDT Print View

Has anyone checked out the Stoic Wraith wind jacket? At 2.5 oz I know of no other full zip wind jacket with a pocket and hood. I wonder what it actually weighs?

Looks promising, i dont own any of the Stoic gear but it seems like they are going the right direction.

Hmm, never seen it before. Stoic stuff has been accurate in the weight listings so far for me.

Interesting that they were able to cut off 0.7 oz from the CAMP Magic Anorak and 1.5 from the CAMP Magic Jacket. Could shock cord and cordlocks for the hem and hood add up to a 1.5 oz difference?

Stoic on 06/09/2011 14:55:27 MDT Print View

I picked up a couple Stoic long sleeve merino wool shirts on S&C last year and they quickly became my favorite base layer. High quality and a good fit. I can't comment on this jacket, but I've been happy with the couple pieces of Stoic clothing I have.

Even a hood and full zipper at 2.5 oz. Reasonably priced too.

Breathability? on 06/09/2011 16:07:01 MDT Print View

No mention on the site about breathability. To me that's a key requirement for a wind shirt. Anyone heard anything along those lines?

If it's nylon thin enough to be that light weight then it has to be pretty breathable, unless the DWR coating somehow kills that completely.

Any update on this? I'm pretty interested to see how it compares to the NF Verto or the CAMP USA Magic line. Backpacker mag did a review which praises it (but then again it's backpacker). At least they say it's survived 3 months of testing.

I'll take the extra 1.5 oz of my Houdini for a hood that works.

wonder if BC had a contest of who could come up with the worst color for this windshirt. heheh. man that thing is hideous...

Chris have you used the Wraith or have a link bemoaning the hood?

Also the new houdini is 4.3 oz so closer to 2oz heavier and also at $125 it's twice the price (unless you pick up the wraith on SAC where it's closer 1/4 the cost of a houdini).

Josh, I fully agree it is absolutely a hideous color. However the more I see that weight and the price, the more that color is growing on me!

I paid ~ $65 for my Houdini on shoebuy.

I haven't used the Stoic, but I've used/tested/tried enough garments to know by looking that the hood isn't comparable. In fact, the only garment with a hood similar to the Houdini right now is the Haglofs Ozo pullover.

I'll also take the extra weight for not having to redo the DWR, ever.

Edit: Houdinis are on sale direct from Paty for $87.50 right now.

Pata's out of Houdinis, 6PM has 3 colors for 72.50. http://www.6pm.com/search/houdini/filter/zc1/%22Clothing%22/txAttrFacet_Gender/%22Men%22
