Something to try..
These tree pics were taken with a Pentax WPi , not a particularly good camera and not with a particularly good macro setting either.
The intention was to show the difference between no flash, full flash and diffused flash.




The diffuser is made from a piece of soft drink bottle, sanded down and held in place with a piece of Blue Tack.

This is a good tip, Franco.

For those of us with pop-up flashes, a strategically-cut ping pong ball makes a great diffuser.
