Hello,
I just got my sewing machine and i am going to start with a basic nylon ground sheet.
What technique should I use to put a neat 'hem' on the edge of the fabric?
A lot of techniques described in sewing books demand 'ironing' the hem flat and then sewing, but I would imagine that nylon cannot be ironed as it would melt.
Can anyone offer any advise please?

Rather than ironing, simply fold the edge and tape or pin it in place. Be sure to use a synthetic thread as well. In outdoor environments cotton thread - being organic - will rot away.
