Item is withdrawn..I am returning the tent to MLD and ordering the superlight bivy instead. The customer service with MLD is as excellent as the quality of this gear.

What made you decide it would not work for you?

I am currently debating this or the hexamid.

"I am currently debating this or the hexamid."

Never had the cricket, but I must say, I just got my 2 person Hexamid in today. I had him sew in a cuben ground sheet on the bottom instead of the netting. I am VERY happy with the shelter.

12.65 ounces for a roomy 2 person shelter is awesome.

I can't say enough good things about Joe's work. My hexamid twin is the finest tent I've ever owned. I have the net floor, which i definitely like, because I feel like it's a little better suited for three season use. It gets great breezes that flow through and keeps the bugs out. I'm doing a lot of Arkansas hiking where the mosquitos and humidity can get thick. I can attest to the quality work that MLD does, having owned several of his products, but right now I wouldn't trade my hex twin for anything.

hexamid with cuben/net groundsheet on 05/26/2011 14:16:48 MDT Print View

"I had him sew in a cuben ground sheet on the bottom instead of the netting"

cool! i was thinking of getting one like this.

does the groundsheet have much of a bathtub?

two reasons i like the cricket on paper are the cat curves for a tighter pitch and what APPEARS to be better splash protection.

but if you can get the groundsheet to bathtub up far enough before the net starts, that might effectively be the same for a roomier and lighter shelter

What he did for me was, he left about 6 inches of netting around the perimeter, and sewed the ground sheet in with about 2-3 inches of material left above the neeting to block splashing and water running down the sides.

Here is a picture from Douglas Ide's hexamid that is similar to mine.

nice! on 05/27/2011 12:58:27 MDT Print View

i'm assuming this gives one more room AND lighter weight than the hexa-net option combined with a bare tarp?

Correct. This (IMO) is definately the way to go. The only thing I would change is I would get the solo if my wife did not come occasionally.
