CR 123 shelf life? on 05/07/2011 22:37:44 MDT Print View

I'm looking at buying a Zebra light H31 that uses a CR123 battery. Living in AUS these batteries are are fairly expensive but i can buy in bulk overseas for about $1 a battery. My only concern is that the batteries may sit for a year or two before being used.

Will they lose their charge or go bad during that time?

Any help would be great. If it is going to be a hassle then I will have to go with the heavier H51 with the single double A.

Thanks,
Nick

I just got some from batteryjunction. The expiration date on the batteries is Aug. 2020.

Thanks,
I plan on ordering from Battery junction too. What do you usually order?

Just a head’s up on Titanium brand. I struggled with those in my CR123 lights. On high they do OK but on med and low they just drop out way sooner than the Surefire brand. And it wasn’t repeatable; some would drain faster than others. With surefire batteries it was always repeatable. Thus I feel way safer with long term storage of the Surefire brand.

Try your own runtime tests so you can get a feel for how the batteries last.

I have been told that lithiums last 10 years.
They also work much better in the cold.
Have you ever needed to take pee on an early winter morning and found your headlamp doesn't work?

They are much lighter and don't pollute as bad as Alkaline batteries.

Of course they last longer as well.

I bought Energizers. Not the house brand.
