Marmot Mica repair on 04/25/2011 12:45:29 MDT Print View

My Mica is about two years old and the WPB membrane on the inside is cracking and peeling off. I'd rather not replace it just yet. I'm considering applying a silicone or urethane coating to the bare spots, just to keep it waterproof. Has anyone tried applying a coating to the inside of a deteriorating laminated jacket?

Colin,

If it's like tent flies, then you're out of luck. Nothing I've found to fix that. Ask the manufacturer for a little love?

I've applied seamgrip to the inside of a failing Paclite (I know the gore is PTFE and the mica is PU, so a little different) jacket before with relative luck. It seems to hold the spots fine, but if it's cracking/flaking off, then the whole layer is toast and you're pretty much just delaying the inevitable. The coating is really tacky/sticky, so you want to make sure to dust/chalk it. If you're thinking about doing the whole inside with a coating, it might be a lost cause. I don't think it would breath at all and be really grippy against your skin or layers. I'd contact Marmot but good luck!

delamination ... only solution is to contact marmot and pray they replace it for you ... their "lifetime" warranty is the expected "lifetime" of the product i believe

which is why i got the OR helium instead ... infinite guarantee regardless of reason or age
