New Balance MT101 trail shoes on 04/24/2011 18:39:52 MDT Print View

I wear NB WR1080LS for running. They're great shoes, so I've been considering the 101 trail shoe.

Has anyone tried these (especially anyone with a medium to high arch)?

The reviews for the 101s are mostly good, but one of them mentioned a potential downside that sounds fairly annoying.

"Like the 100s, the shoes let in more dirt and debris than others. I found myself having to stop and pull crap out of them from time to time."

That same reviewer said this: "The bottom line – the MT101 is an excellent minimalist trail shoe."

I really like them and I have moderately high arches, though they can be a little slick on some surfaces.

I'm not sure what the shoes you're coming from are like, but I noticed that when I transitioned to the 101's from "supportive" shoes my feet would tire out more quickly until I got them strengthened. Now I love them, and plan on purchasing another pair next time a good sale roles around.

Oh, also I had them laced improperly when I started and they would rub the back of my heal, but after playing around with them I found a way that works well for me.

With those caveats I can definitely recommend them if you find they fit your feet well.

EDIT: I just bought another pair, green this time!
