What's wrong with this picture?

I saved about 3 lbs by making my own pack and it cost me about $1 per ounce to do so.

I saved about 4 ounces by making my own tent poles and it cost me about $2 per ounce to do so.

I saved about 2 ounces by purchasing a lighter sleeping pad and it cost me about $10 per ounce saved.

I saved about 4 ounces on my tent fly by going to cuben fiber and it cost me about $80 per ounce.

During this time I gained about 10 lbs of body weight. Mostly muscle I'm sure. If I had just consumed less I would have saved 10 pounds and made money on each ounce saved by buying less food and beer.

@ Ken...lol

What is your time worth? Did you figure that in? If retired and you are just having fun tinkering....have at it. then........do what Ken said. :)

If you gained 10 lbs of usable muscle then you've saved 10 lbs of fat :)

Thanks for the feedback.

Ken and Sheila,

Yes, I need to turn the dial toward backpacking and away from gear obsessing. Let's see, about 70 to 80 hours of vigorous walking should burn off 10 lbs.

Jeff,

I'm sorry to say that most of the 10 lbs is what my football coach used to call "chow muscles".

3500 cal = lb of fat

100 cals burned per mile while walking

begin stepping lively immediately!
