Welcome to the metaphoric mesosphere, Ryan. The BTDT's here at BPL will educate you all about UL & SUL, while introducing you to gear from MLD, SMD, GG, etc. Being new to backpacking altogether, you may be at somewhat of an advantage having a clean slate. Perhaps you have never been to REI also. Cheers!

What you will find here is BTDT with varying opins. Typically ranging from love it to hate it and every degree between. So you will be right back where you started until you experience gear or technique for yourself. Just kidding, there's a ton of valuable info here. You will jump way up the learning curve very soon.
