Anybody use a pot cozy? on 04/04/2011 21:34:58 MDT Print View

Hi everybody,

I am thinking about purchasing an Antigravity Gear pot cozy for my Evernew Ultra light pot. Just wondering if it is worth buying. Thanks.

If you are doing "just add hot water" meals and eating out of the pot, the answer is Yes. The cozy will help retain heat for better hydration.

If you are using a Keg-H, and eating out of the H, not so much, as the Cone will help retain the heat.

More info from you would yield better answers.

Hi David,

Thanks for the link. About a year ago I tried to find the bubble rap duct insulating material and foil tape but couldn't find it at the Home Depot. Maybe I didn't try hard enough, anyway where did you get you materials from? Thanks.

I really like my pot cozy that I got from AGG for my MLD 850 pot. I rehydrate my meal in its own bag, and eat the meal, and the water still in the pot is still very for washing up and brushing my teeth (I have sensitive teeth, cold water doesn't feel so good!).

Dan,

Do you have a Lowe's in your area? If so, go to the Lowe's website and search "reflectix" and "foil tape". These are the two items I use. You could use another tape if you want. The foil tape is pricey, but it helps hold the heat. If you plan on experimenting with a lot of different cook set ups, this is probably your best bet. If you just need one, then buying it from AGG is probably your best bet.

Dan,

I picked up the reflectix and reflectix tape at Orchard Supply Hardware. Orchard is great because they sell the reflectix by the foot so you dont have to buy a huge roll for a small project. It looks like your neighborhood has an Orchard in Capitola and Watsonville.

I used them at first, but not anymore. Ramen rehydrates fast so it's not needed if using a pot. A freezer bag probably benefits from one.

I found reflectix and metal tape at ACE hardware. It's easy to make your own and the reflectix is really cheap.

You can actually save some weight by using your extra warm layers instead of a dedicated cozy. A balaclava and a pair of thick socks will do the trick.

Here you go. I had leftovers from insulating my garage door this past summer and it works fine.

I made a few of them.
