Soon to be called fledglings?? 6/11-25 on 04/02/2011 09:17:56 MDT Print View

This is posted on "other activites" forum, but had to let everyone know that one has hatched. I know this isn't the appropriate place, but more people traffic here that wouldn't otherwise see this. Sorry if this breaks the rules(Roger).....move if need to,
but its so worth the excitement to behold this one time!?!
Be patient and watch! :)

This is cool. There used to be a camera in WV like this. I do not remember the link, but I will try to find it.

You can see the chick now and the mother ripping up a rabbit.

My 9 year old daughter thinks this is gross.

The first eaglet to hatch was fed fresh rabbit by a parent eagle.

A memorial service will be held for the recently departed rabbit at the Decorah Iowa Lutheran Church. Donations will be accepted for PETA.

You are too funny Bob.
Actually, I believe the rabbit is a week old. We've had the wake/visitation all this time. Poor bunny...the little guy seems to be enjoying it right now.

Don't get me wrong. I like rabbits. They are cute and cuddly, and very tasty.

36 degrees with a wind chill that makes it feel like 26 degrees and snow.

The only place that isn't covered is where momma/daddy and the babies are at in the nest.

No tent, no tarp and no campfire, duh! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Eagle down must be really warm.:-)

Party On,

they are getting HUGE...feathers coming in on 04/21/2011 09:29:39 MDT Print View

@ John..yea, even some snow yesterday. At least its warm enough so they can sun bathe. Ferocious eaters, then they just drop.

It's a lot of fun to watch this family grow. I hope to be around (and not away on a trip) when they start flying!

The "white comet" coming out from the back end of an eaglet..its poo! on 04/30/2011 15:26:42 MDT Print View

Tip feathers are coming in now. They are starting to spread their wings out so to catch the wind at times. Below is a link to the webcam placement last fall. Get a real idea how huge this nest is.

They grow fast ... close to adult size at age 9 weeks. Flight is a bit more variable around 12-14 weeks, IIRC.

Let the fledging begin.....likely mid/late June on 06/10/2011 16:00:15 MDT Print View

Just got word that these 3 teen eaglets should fledge sometime between June 11-25, likely the later. Its so fun following them. They don't look nor act like anything from before.
