I'll be studying in Germany this summer and will have a couple of weeks to do some travel or hiking before I start classes. I'm thinking I'll probably fly into Rome, spend a couple of days there, then make my way via buses to Dresden. I love the idea of doing a little backpacking in the mountains on my way, for up to a week or so.

Any suggestions on trails or places to go?

The Pyrenees offer a huge diversity of backpacking opportunities. I'm hiking the HRP this summer.

Corsica! In addition to the GR20, there are several shorter cross-island (Mare a Mare) trails.
