I just noticed surfing around that apple has a new ipod shuffle design. The new unit is tiny. The specs on it say it's 1GB and 0.55 oz!

The shuffle is light, but lacks in functionality. After much research I settled on a Sandisk Sansa m240.

1 gig memory
Supports searches by artist, album and playlists
Long battery life (one AAA)
Voice recorder
FM tuner
1.3 oz (if my memory serves)

Shuffle is great for music, but not for audiobooks.

Negatives: internal battery, no screen, no way to choose song, book section etc.

Positives: no screen, long battery life, shuffle is no-worries easy. Load it up and go.

To add to what Wade said... the new shuffle is also INSANELY tiny. Check it out if you haven't seen it. It looks to be about 1/3 the size of the original 'stick of gum' model.

Also... the new iPod Nano is 1.41 oz and it not has a much more robust brushed aluminum case... as opposed to the highly scratch-prone glossy plastic case of the previous model.
