The Return of Tater Tuesdays!
I blatently stole the idea of Tater Tuesday from Sarah of Trail Cooking (with her blessing.) Everyone loves taters, right?Po-ta-toes. Boil 'em. Mash 'em. Stick 'em in a stew. Po-ta-toes!Broccoli Cheese Mashed PotatoesServes 11/2 cup butter or cheese flavored mashed potatoes 1/4cup broccoli cheddar soup mix 2 tablespoons dried broccoli 1 cheddar cheese stick At home: combine the potatoes, soup mix and broccoli in a zip locking freezer bag. In camp: add a generous 1 cup of hot water to the mix. Stir well. Serve topped with cheese.Variation: Add bacon bits.

Oooh, Sarah, suppress that mean streak!Here's a helpful hint to anyone else who doesn't like mushrooms - substitute walnuts for them. Not a logical swap, I agree, but I think walnuts taste good in just about anything.
Wash-up a couple of taters and toss them in your pack as additions to any meal. I love 'em fried up with some peppery german wurst, mushrooms and fresh green beans.
I love taters any day of the week, it's very rare for me to go out with some kind of taters in my pack.I like the garlic Idahoan add dehydrated corn and green beansadd dehydrated chicken or from the pouchat afternoon break add water the the dehydrated veggies and chickenin camp add these to the potatoessalt and pepper to taste

So true. Think about it, you two. Fungus? And feel free to make the walnut substitution suggestion whenever you must include fungus in a recipe. You'll be doing a lot of people a favor!
Okay, new to tater tot Tuesday.We are all in on tater tots. They will be a big hit with my gang. So how do you pack tater tots? Do I dehydrate them or do I just not worry about them and they are good in the pack for 24 hours or so? I assume you don't want to crush them and loose their delicate taterish shape. Can you put them on sticks and roast them over a fire? Should I start working on a Caldera Cone Deep Fat Fryer, or maybe a fill up a the back country boiler with lard?
Do sweet potatoes count? I love to make sweet potato burritos. Shred up some sweet potato, saute in a bit of oil with taco seasoning, toss on a flour tortilla with some black beans, corn and shredded cheese! Add a bit of salsa if you like. Yum!

Now . . . there is a difference between a sweet potato and a yam. I laugh when I hear or see a can of "canned yam", then the ingredients say "sweet potato.I LOVE yams, not sweet potato
I'd say most people see them the same - like prunes and dried plums. Prunes = old people, dried plums = cool and hip. Yams = makes one think of canned junk. Sweet potatoes = lovely baked ones in a skin. A true sweet potato is an interesting thing really. Not so easy to find where I live either most times of the year where as the yams always are in the produce department.But I wouldn't sweat it - and yams is such an old fogey word :-D
