My hats off to Andrew Skurka for completing such an endeaver. I just finished reading the article of his journey in the March 2011 issue of National Geographic. This dude is a machine! He's hiked 25,000 miles since 2002, and he's only 29 years old. Dang...I'm 47 and I don't think I've driven that many miles since 2002. I recommend that everyone read the article. He hiked 4,679 miles during his 176 day epic adventure...that's averaging 26.5 miles/day. We're talking trails that don't exist.

Why am I talking about this under 'GEAR', becuase I'd like to learn more about his gear. Anyone know what he carried? The article talks about his summer and winter gear weight but not specifics. I'm also curious about his 4,760 calorie/day intake. He has a picture of his food, but what is it? I do see M & M's in a bag. I know he's on this site, so hopefully some info....please. And 'no' I don't want this info because I want to try the hike....no thanks!

John

I am attending one of Andy's presentations at the National Geographic building in DC in March where he will be talking about this trip in detail - I can't wait! I read this article over the weekend, it was great!
