Say it in another language on 02/17/2011 09:35:15 MST Print View

I see that we have BPL members from other countries.
Here is an idea, mostly for fun, but we could learn something too:
I'll write a sentence, backpacking related, in another language; next person translates it into English and writes the next sentence ( a different one) in yet another language. If no one can translate it within a day or so, the writer goes back and helps us out.
If the translation is close enough, no need for others to correct it. Like I said, backpacking related would be good, nothing too complicated would be nice.

So here we go:

Che tipo di tenda preferisci usare d'inverno, nella neve e nel vento?

Since this would require someone to know two languages besides English, we can make it a little friendlier: If you can translate it into English, but can't come up with another language, just write one in English and request someone else to translate in into ??? for us.

Sounds funny!

Che tipo di tenda preferisci usare d'inverno, nella neve e nel vento?

What type of tent do you prefer to use in winter, snow and wind?

And my answer (and next phrase of the game) is:

Una tienda piramidal de silnylon naranja que he construido recientemente.

Cheers / Saludos

So Roger won't say any more ... on 02/17/2011 11:34:16 MST Print View

Roger,

Why won't you say any more? Because no one translated your prior post?

So here we go:

"I would like to get the yellow pyramid and I live in Denmark."

Wow, do you really live in Denmark? Or does "bor" mean "born"? I thought it means "live". I was born in Moelln in Schleswig-Holstein but live now in California.

So here comes my sentence in German:

"Ich kann es kaum abwarten im Sommer mit meinen zwei Toechtern auf den JMT zu gehen."

Hi Benjamin,

I needed help with yours, but here we go: "I like hiking". So we are still playing :)

Does that mean I can post another German sentence"?

"Letzten Sommer war ich mit meinen zwei Soehnen auf dem JMT."

I can hardly wait to go with my two daughters to the JMT next summer.

OK. How about this?

夏になったら一ヶ月間ネパールに行きます。

Edit: I can hardly wait to walk the JMT with my two daughters next summer.

"Gehen" can be "go" or "walk", but in this case "walk" would seem be better.

"I like hiking".

That makes it my turn but someone else can use it.

Miguel, I think we need your help with the translation.
Here is another one to see if can keep this going. I for one, would actually really like to learn the backpacking terminology in all kinds of languages.

Gibt es kein einfaches Wort, um " backpacking" zu Uebersetzen? Wie sagt ihr Das?
