Vapor Barrier Liner on 01/21/2011 10:09:16 MST Print View

I'm waiting for an RBH sleeping bag vapor barrier liner to arrive and am curious if others have used it (or a MYOG version). I use a quilt and bivy combination and was thinking of hoisting the vbl to my armpits and still using a down parka over the VBL and under the quilt for extra insulation. How useful will the VBL be for keeping moisture from escaping and affecting my down quilt's loft?

I have been working with Joe at Zpacks and will soon have available the TrailLite Designs cuben "CloudLiner", this is a VBL that can be used in quilt or bag mode and will be UL light.

Sounds great. I'd be interested in a liner that was fashioned for a quilt. After all, I didn't get into quilts just to box myself into a bag liner!

It used to be on the zPacks site, but it's not any longer. Don't know why. I have one fashioned for a quilt, I've taken it on a couple of trips but haven't had to use it yet.

I use the Heatsheets SOL emergency bivy as a VBL liner.
Cheap, and it works.

I take ultralight wind/rain gear and figure that in a pinch I'd use it as a VBL. My Mountain Hardware Phantom 45 has been so surprisingly warm in a bivy that I have not resorted to a VBL even when it dropped down to the mid teens F.

weight? on 08/27/2012 14:15:31 MDT Print View

@douglas - what is the weight of your VBL? is it from 0.51osy cuben? when you say "for a quilt" i assume you mean shorter than for a full bag?

@tom - i had thought of that...but my understanding was that cuben has better weight/strength performance...
