REQUEST MORE FEATURES on 09/20/2006 06:35:20 MDT Print View

Hi

I'm sure BPL staff are aware of this but we desperately need more features for the forums, unless I'm missing something.

How can I track my posts and any replies directed at me? Could use a section in 'MY ACCOUNT' listing my Forum activity, and some easy way of searching forums. Also option to have emails sent to me regarding forum replies etc.

Thanks

search forums? on 10/02/2006 09:20:12 MDT Print View

You could delegate to google but still have the google search widget on your pages. It's like the regular google advanced search but with the domain pre-specified as the forums. Might be able to use http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/forums/

If not, maybe change it to forums.backpackinglight.com

How to Search the Forums with Google on 10/24/2006 10:40:58 MDT Print View

Here is a Google Custom Search Engine for searching the forums:

So BPL folks, try adding this to the forums:

<!-- Google CSE Search Box Begins -->
<form id="searchbox_015537263825766149625:4jacpcxg9ks" action="http://www.google.com/cse">
<input type="hidden" name="cx" value="015537263825766149625:4jacpcxg9ks" />
<input name="q" type="text" size="40" />
<input type="submit" name="sa" value="Search" />
<input type="hidden" name="cof" value="FORID:0" />
</form>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.google.com/coop/cse/brand?form=searchbox_015537263825766149625%3A4jacpcxg9ks"></script>
<!-- Google CSE Search Box Ends -->

Paul-As a test I did a search based on "Richard Nisley" using your custom Google search; it listed 23 entries.

I did the same search using the Search Forums option; it listed 14 entries.

I referenced the same posting information by looking at my BPL personal profile; it listed 129 entries.

Paul-I also tried a search for Primaloft. Using the custom Google = 14 entries and Forum Search = 164 entries.

Yeah Rich! BPLers coming with the numbers!

I have been using the google advanced search but this seems to do about the same, doing a search restricted to http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/forums/

Just tried and got 24 with Advanced search.

Are all those 129 entries still in existence or did they get um, archived?

Names might be a little tricky, could be that the Search Forums option has some smarts to eliminate duplicates or whatnot. How were the result qualities?

I have a couple of different listings for this one:: Richard Nisley Stripped MSR::

Hmmmm Google on 10/24/2006 12:02:28 MDT Print View

Search for "hat" in forum search page:
http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/forums/search.html?q=hat&fid=0
Displaying results 1 - 50 of 16807

Search using widget = 22 :( nevermind.
