Hi,

I am planning to hike from south lake, Bishop, to Whitney Portal in Aug. Plan is for 6 days 5 nights on trail, plan on 10-15 miles per day. I live in orange county, CA.

Hmmm. From South Lake, over Bishop Pass, and down to the JMT is about 10 miles. From there to the summit of Whitney is about 77 miles. From there down to Whitney Portal is 11. I think you might be stretched a little more than 15 miles per day.

It is beautiful country, though.
