myog camp chair? on 09/14/2006 13:50:01 MDT Print View

Has anyone experimented with homemade ultralight versions of thermarest-type chair kits? What'd it weigh and how well did it work?

I'll bet you could totally do it with some silnylon, aluminum or CF stays on the edges for form, and stategically placed cordura and still keep it under 3.5oz! Use your mt. washington pad with it right?

I've been meaning to do that for my GG Nightlight foam pad for a year now.

I was going to see if I could use the stays from my Mariposa pack for ridgidity.

My thermarest chair kit weighs 14 oz, which is silly heavy for what it is.

I've been thinking about making a chair simular to this

(i think i might have gotten that link from someone? bill?) anyway, looks like it would be simple enough to make, and if you use your trekking poles it would be pretty light+compact. i havent made one yet as im waiting for gossamergear to come out with thier 2 peice poles and make one according to those dimensions. :D

I continue to search for the perfect chair or camp stool . I have built stools and chairs out of carbon fiber kite spars and tubes both purchased and homemade. I ran across these items that might have some applicaton here. -My 2 cents.

I'm prototyping a themarest-compatible chair kit design that uses trekking poles for back support, and weighs ~1.3 ounces. I'll report more once I've field tested it a bit.
