Which are better FF or goose feet?

can't say which is better, but the FF come in a little cheaper as the shells are included in the price ($85), the FF also have more down 4 oz vs 1 oz (you can add up to an extra oz in the GF)

if you don't need that much down however, then the GF really shine as they are quite light ~ 3.9 oz vs 9 oz

so I guess it boils "down" :) to what your looking to use them for

I want to use them for winter camping in the pnw.
any idea whether I would need the extra down?

Kind of a silly question, as, with all such questions, you'll generally get opinions on both sides. Not to mention that few people will have had both and so can make a direct comparison.

Both are very good. Both are well made. You won't go wrong with either.

for winter camping, depending on what temps your going to see, the FF might be the better option- a lot of folks like to err on the side of warm for cold weather

i for one dont get the point of stuffing 4 oz of down into the FF booties. my montbell alpine light has 4 oz of down, as does my te-wa Breeze underquilt.
that much down in small booties seems overkill, and diminishing.
stuffing down to the point where down compresses itself is pointless, imho.

get the goosefeet.

I have the FF booties, and really like them. The do have a lot of down in them (I would not say overkill) but they are for cold weather. If your going into warmer weather I think they might be to warm. I mostly went with FF because I liked the idea of having an inner and outer part of the boot. In the snow I can walk around camp in the booties and just slip the outer shell off while I climb into my bag at night. I was a little put off by the pic on the FF website (the inner bootie looked cheap to me) but upon receiving them I am very impressed with their quality and design.

just to be clear, that would be 2 oz/bootie, not 4 oz for the FF :)

^ I think for winter (read cold) use the FF should work pretty well- sitting around camp from teens down to below 0 calls for pretty warm garments for the feet

I'd love to hear from GF users what their experience is for camp wear in cold weather- clearly for shoulder season/cool weather sleep/camp use the GF should be the cat's a$$

thanks Mike, i knew i must have understood that wrong.. i have seen the FF in person. they look nice. i own GF inner and outer shells. they work fine around the house - i have not yet used the shell in the woods. Im sure it would hold up well, its made of dynemma iirc.
as if things arent confusing enough, i hear WM is going to introduce a newer, lighter version of their down socks this year.

I have a pair of nunatak Teanaway down booties that I'm very pleased with.

4 oz total weight.
2 oz down fill weight.
Epic upper shell.
Toughtex outsole.

For Christmas I got a pair of the 40 Below Booties and I got my kid a set of the GF Socks with the Overboots. They are very cool. We just finished shoveling the driveway with the booties on. I was toasty warm and so was the kid (no wool socks needed). We had good traction and it is darn cold out there today with some decent wind chill.

I'll end up getting a pair of the GF for myself before too long, but I like the idea of synthetic insulation for moisture management.

I can't comment on the Goosefeet booties as I've never used them. I would also agree that it depends on how you will be using the booties.

I've used my Feathered Friends booties around camp in the snow and they are excellent. A couple of things to think about is that the FF booties have a tough sole on the outer boot so if comparing weights you would have to compare to the optional tough sole on the Goosefeet booties as that would be the equivalent outer boot (and doubles the weight of the Goosefeet outer).

The FF booties have an additional drawstring (at the ankle) which I think would keep them on your feet better than the Goosefeet which only have a top drawstring closure. If you plan on wearing them in the snow and walking around quite a bit this could be something to consider. I can't image not having this to keep the boots from slipping around and pulling off in deep snow.

The Feathered Friends boots are breathable (slightly) and I have used them to dry out my socks. I'd be concerned about the lack of breathability of the silnylon for prolonged use (maybe somebody that has used the Goosefeet booties could comment on breathability).
