Side Sleeper Comfort/warmth-WM or MB on 12/09/2010 10:59:38 MST Print View

Hey just a question regarding overall fit in regards to warmth with these two bags. I have a western mountaineering bag and LOVE it but was thinking about purchasing a montbell hugger bag to try out as well. I sleep on my side and bring one knee way up when I sleep so I favor a wider bag so I can sleep comfortably but feel I may be losing heat because I'm a small framed guy sleeping in a wider bag. Hope that makes sense. Would I get more overall warmth with a bag that sucks around my body or is there only a small difference in overall heat levels. Just thinking about it in terms of if my true jacket size is a large and I'm wearing a XXL it can't be as effective because it's not as snug. So in relation to a sleeping bag I have a lot of empty space that needs to be heated. Just curious. Thanks for your thoughts. Eric

Hello-

I have the Montbell SS UL Hugger #1 and love it. I used it in NE PA with temps down in the high teens. I was in a Big Agnes Fly Creek 2 tent with a Z-Lite Pad and Prolite inflatable. I also used a Sea to Summit Lite liner. Very Very Comfy. I too am a side sleeper and a restless as well. It has and did work for me. Had room to move but not too much. I even found myself on my stomach and the bag moved just a bit.

I was worried about my side/stomach restless sleeping habits but no more. I added a Cocoon Hyperlite pillow that was semi inflated and I had one of my best nights out in the woods.

Hope it helps
