Any reason why they don't post internationally?

We always miss out on good stuff form the states due to this, and postage down here to OZ is not even that expensive.

Really wanted to get a new pack from these guys too!

I had wanted to try out a Shangri-La 2 based on Dondo's trip reports on his web page and then he posted the 40% off deal. So thanks to Dondo for the information and the great deal!

Interesting Randy. I was looking at the Shangri-La last night and trying to decide between the 1 and the 2. They're only about $15 apart in price and the weight penalty between them is not all that bad. I wanted the Shangri-La for winter and snow camping. I was thinking I'd get the 2 for those times when I had company.

I'd recommend going with the SL-2, Kendall. There will be room for your puppies, for one thing. Also, the SL-2 has 2 guy attachment loops on each side, which allows you to dramatically increase the interior space. The SL-1 doesn't have these side loops.

Thanks Gary. You're right, I could use the room. I could bring down some of the added weight by leaving the 7 oz bivy at home. This sale's gonna make it hard to pass up.

Kendall,

The option exists to use 2 hiking poles at the front to form an inverted "V". This gets rid of the center pole hassle. I used a PVC "Y" on mine to fit onto the pole tips.

John

Thanks John. I was wondering about the center pole and how bothersome it might be.

Kendall, check out this link to Dondo's site. It's what got me considering the Shangri-La 2 to start with. I like a roomy shelter (I carry a Rainshadow 2 just for me and my dog) so I went with the 2. I got the Shangri-La primarily for a solo winter shelter but will see how we both fit in the spring.

Randy,

Dondo's review is very convincing and encouraging for my purposes for getting the SL-2. I was thinking of it primarily for winter. This year will be my first time snow camping. I want to be as protected as possible. I have a Grace Duo for me and my dogs in spring, Summer and fall. And, when they're not with me I'll be using a poncho tarp; which, I have to RE-acquire. A year and a half ago I was a victim of the southbound economy and had to sell a lot of gear. I like that, by not needing the bivy, the weight only comes to 6 ounces more than when I'm using my Grace Duo/bivy combo.

Yep. I'm considering using this coupon code for a poncho tarp as well.

Thanks for the link. The SL-2's going to work. I'm even more excited now.

Kendall

Does anyone know what the width and length is on the Shangrila 2? Ive been thinking of getting the MSR twin sisters since its plenty long for my long size bag and wide enough to have two people use 25" wide pads. But I dont like that it doesn't have side pull out loops. This seems like a great deal on a very similar tent but would like to get more info on it. What are your alls thoughts on it compared to the twin sisters?
