Anyone ever use small aircraft to access Wilderness trailheads? I'll confess to being a pilot and user of ultra-lightweight gear. I have flown into several backcountry airstrips which are often the only trailheads for access to some spectacular hiking opportunities.Go ahead and tell me what you think about this and airplanes in general. I realize I'm opening a can of worms, but I really what to know how to improve aviator/backpacker relationships.
I'm kinda the show me type - maybe fly me in to a trailhead sometime, and I can better advise you! :)
As a pilot and backpacker, this has always called out to me, but I've never done it. We have several airstrips in California that seem like a good match for this (Shasta Trinity and a few strips in the central Sierra come to mind).
