harrison lake

It snowed a ton in NW MT last week, and kept snowing and got cold (daytime highs in single digits F) this weekend. I got today to dayhike, packraft, and look around.

Winter? What winter!? You'd laugh at what folks consider cold in my neck of the "woods". I'm looking forward to getting up higher very soon. I envy your immediate access to wilderness, but always thoroughly enjoy your posts.

We're getting there in Southern California.

Here's two shots from my run this morning in Los Padres N.F.:

A few inches have gathered on the north slopes already. It started crystal clear, but was beginning to snow on my way out.

Man, that is some prime running country!

Temperatures in the mid 20's right now, down to 15 tonight.
Quite a bit of snow falling up in the Cascades. Not long until we get to break out the snowshoes.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but Craig, whereabouts in the Los Padres were you running?

I'd imagine somewhere back along the Frazier Park/Castaic area? I could see some snow out towards the deep backcountry behind Ventura yesterday but we don't have any in our immediate backountry here on my sides of the Los Padres.

I was up near Glacier NP yesterday afternoon for work and popped over to the foot of Lake McDonald to hide from the wind, take pictures, and marvel at what 20 mph winds and -5F ambient can do.

icey rocks

Nicholas-
I parked at the edge of Lockwood Valley (deeper than Frazier Park) and ran the road to the Fish Bowls trailhead (Grade Valley)...then went in deeper on single track before turning around. Didn't see a single person.

Nice Craig. I haven't been out that way in a while. Looking forward to a little bit of winter solitude in the Los Padres.

We had a little bit of frost last night... that's about as much winter as we get here on the coast!

But I'm off to Mammoth tomorrow for the family Thanksgiving dinner, so I'm sure I'll get a taste of what real winter is like.

Cheers, Nick
