Thought I'd share a 5 minute project with the Monatauk Gnat stove for those that love the simplicity of this tiny cooker but wish it had an auto starter.
I had an MSR igniter lying around and the Gnat unscrews very easily. A little bending on the igniter here and there and it fit really nicely. Screwed it onto a cartridge and it fired up on the first try. Pretty simple!
It defnitely takes away from the simplicity and elegance of this stove. In fact, I'm not sure I'll keep it on there for this very reason. It also adds 0.5 oz to the stove bringing it to 2.1 oz (although still likely the lightest cartridge stove out there). But if an auto starter is the one thing that has kept you from checking out the Gnat, it can be had for $10 at most outdoor shops and is a dead simple addition. 100% reversible if you you don't like it, too.
