ULA Amp- any users? on 10/16/2010 12:34:20 MDT Print View

Hi all,

I've just picked up a ULA Amp on the Gear Swap- does anyone have any long term user experience or tips with this pack to share? I've googled and there's little user reviews or opinions.

I loaded it up with everything minus food and water, and it came to 4kg, and felt great around the house (This includes a full length inflatable pad as support, partially inflated for comfort).

I don't think I'll use the extra kangaroo type pocket on the outside, but the hip belt pockets are handy.

cheers,
fred

Great little pack, I've been using mine for a little over a year. Longest distance approx 200 miles. Met a hiker on the AT this summer using one on his thru hike. It's my go to pack for 3-season weekends, week long or a month as long as resupply isn't more than 5-7 days apart.

I added 2 MLD hip pockets, removed the draw string closure and added clips for a roll top closure

Mine has only been used as a day pack and on an overnighter or two.
I can fit in it a 3 night (fair weather) kit and feels OK to me up to about 8 kg.
Mostly I use it to carry my fruit and veggies back from the market, up to 12 kg, but it is only about a 2 KM trip.
I have that extra kangaroo pocket, sounded like a good idea at the time but never used it.
This was one of those "let's see what I can fit in " type shots. (ignore the hammock at the back)

A fine pack. See my 2008 review on this site. Two years later I'm still backpacking with it, and my opinion hasn't changed. Long term enough for me.

Cheers

I love this pack. I also bought mine from another member here. Since I've gone to hammocks, I don't use it as much as I used to due to greater volume carried. I still use if for all my day hikes. I did add a sternum strap to it.

Hi all,

Thanks for the feedback- I really like this pack, and can't wait to get over the shingles and out on the trail with it.

One question- does anyone know how to take off the hip belt pockets? I'm having a blonde moment about it and can't figure this out.

cheers,
fred
