In trying to post a long comment to the long-running Carbon Flame War Thread I just discovered that 50 pages is the limit of writing posts. Should we open a new thread or let the beast die a merciful death? (though I very much found the thread fascinating).

Aw, c'mon, Ben. Things were just starting to heat up again, and we were definitely generating copious quantities of greenhouse gasses. Another 50 pages and we should be able to give the lie to Tallbloke's contention that global warming is a hoax.

Sounds like a beat up to me - a manufactured "problem" by all those "thread-endists" who have a vested interest in scaring us simple folk here at BPL into thinking that the thread is ending.

I have several (cherry-picked) data points which suggest the thread will actually continue, in an even more robust manner than before.

Does it, cosmicly speaking, matter if the software is broke and the thread is dead?

And, philosophically, even if it matters, does it matter that it matters?

The conversation had pretty much moved on from the issue of whether or not human emissions of carbon dioxide have any much effect on global temperature. No-one here seems to be trying to defend the hypothesis with any science anymore anyway.

I think the incoming northern hemisphere winter will be another nail in the coffin of a dead duck theory.

I'd like to thank everyone who made worthwhile contributions to the Carbon Flamewar and look forward to sharing a beer with Dean when he hands over $1000 in four years time to settle our bet. :-)
