She had her first camping trip the last week of August. She's only 10 pounds and 3 months old already!

Her name is Kaia Noelle. Kaia means "womanly personification of Earth" and Noelle... well my son, Tobias, chose that because of the Christmas connotation and that he thinks of her as a gift. He's sweet and deep for a 9 year old. Our last name, being March (which essentially is a type of walking), means that her trail nickname could be Earth Walker... lol.

Anyway, she seems to adore the fresh air. I can't wait to get out on a wilderness trip with her as I am getting a little cabin fever.

yes she does make me smile an awful lot... even when I get tired and frustrated she'll look up at me and whammo... I forget all about the frustration.

My 9 year old has a way of making me smile too but with him it's more the things that come out of his mouth (like when he bruised his shin and yelled "my spleen, my spleen! I've bruised my spleen." which was followed by a quick anatomy lesson - lol)

What a cutie!

As a father of a two year old, I wish I had been on the trail more when he was that young- so much easier to grab your stuff and run out into the world than when they're this age. Can't walk more than a mile, and past the first half it takes a lot of cajoling- and he doth not abide the kid carrier. :D Hoping that next summer we'll be able to go on overnights and weekends with him- all three of us, or just me and him.

Thanks... I think so too... but I'm really biased.

That's why we are fortunate in that we live in one of the most wonderful places for canoeing. When she goes through the stage where she's a pain we will just do what we did with Tobias the summer he was 4... go on wilderness paddling trips. We also did that when our friend's little guy was a toddler and wouldn't/couldn't walk very far.

She adores Iron Chef, Bobby Flay.



She was totally fascinated with Tobi's dictionary.
