Ok, this is my gear list for paramo ecosystem. most of my hikes are in the paramo ecosystem (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P%C3%A1ramo), near my home in the Parque Nacional Natural Los Nevados, i usually hike from 1411 meters above sea level to 5125 meters. Paramo is rainy, wet, foggy and pretty cold but sometimes can be pretty hot 30ºC or more.

Do you need all of the spare clothing?

Drop the hand sanitizer and just use soap and water. (Ryan Jordan just added a new article about this.)

about the spare clothings, the paramo ecosystem can be very humid, located in the tropical ecuador line is difficult to predict rain precipitations, and i don't have any waterproof/breathable layer, dry clothes can be crucial to camp at night. some times in the approach to the paramo, i enter in the Very Humid Cloud Jungle(the WB layers are useless in this conditions). about a spare fire starting item and the compass you're totally right.
