Asparagus: Dehydrated vs Freeze Dried on 07/28/2010 14:04:21 MDT Print View

I am considering dehydrating asparagus and am wondering if anyone has had luck dehydrating and getting good results of rehydrating asparagus? We love asparagus and it would be very good to have at camp with some fresh caught fish. If the results are not so pleasant, how does freeze dried asparagus compare to fresh?

Thanks again for your input.

I have had the fd version, it is quite nice! Tastes fresh when rehydrated.

I recently dehydrated some asparagus, and it turned out fine.

It didn't pop back up to fully normal size, the way broccoli magically does. But the taste preserved pretty well.

Might help to rehydrate it for a while in cold water before cooking.

Bryan and I have had great results drying asparagus. I often use it in soups and sauces and it comes back well.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I am going to give it a whirl and dehydrate some tonight.
