John, are you coming up here for a backpacking trip? Where to?

Ryan, yeah, it was frustrating, but at the same time I was out there enjoying nature, so it wasn't too bad.

Well, I'm off to REI to look at maps and figure out what went wrong.

I'm planning on a day-hike to Mount Sopris, and then spending some time at Capitol and Avalanche Lakes...

I think the mystery of the phantom trailhead is solved. Anyone thinking of doing the Eagles Nest loop should read the edit at the end of my trip report since even the most recent version of the map is not current with conditions on the ground.
