Is their a BPL Motto or Pledge? Suggestions? Contest on 07/01/2010 16:24:18 MDT Print View

So I was wondering in any poets/writers out there have come up with a motto or pledge? Any suggestions? Suggested wording?

I am hoping there is something catchy that will capture the imagination of the Boy Scouts and adults in my troop. A little motivation. Please have fun with this and give me some ideas!!!

For several seasons I thought that "Out of Stock and Not Available for Pre-Order at this time" was the BPL motto, but they seem to have stopped using that phrase.

That may be true Cameron, but it's way too long to fit on a coffe mug.

How about "Go light or die tryin"?

"He who dies with the most amount of time spent talking about cuben fiber gear without actually hiking wins."

(Also too long for a coffee cup.)

I always thought the basic ultralight backpacker motto was

"The fun goes up when the weight goes down."

Maybe it should be:

"Lss s Mr"

I mean... vowels weigh a half ounce each.

No Motto on 07/01/2010 18:46:15 MDT Print View

No motto. Why?
The Tao that can be spoken of is not the enduring and unchanging Tao. The name that can be named is not the enduring and unchanging name.

Having no name, it is the Originator of heaven and earth; having a name, it is the Mother of all things.

We should rid ourselves of desires if we wish to observe its subtlety; we should allow our desires if we wish to see something of its manifestations.

Under these two aspects, it is really the same; but as development takes place, it receives the different names. Together we call them the mystery; where the mystery is the deepest is the gate of all that is

Dang Cameron you beat me to it. Wasn't it "He who dies with the lightest pack wins" at one time. Sexist but... Greg does point out the current choice.

Yeah, but it explains the recent luxury item /heavy item dualism vs. lightening up. But hell , I like motto's too . Sierra Designs had their day. Divine Light, Divine Lightning.

I like it. Of course we could always try: "What me carry?" (with apologies to Alfred E. Neuman). ;)

Love it. Apply to life.

I recall the "He who dies with the lightest pack wins" thing ... but personally I prefer to live to hike again (with a light pack, of course)
