New trip report at Dondo Outdoors.

Nice report as usual Dondo. I love the area around Bison Peak. In the spring there was a creek in the saddle between Bison Peak and McCurdy Mtn. When I was back there in October it was all gone along with a couple smaller snow melt creeks.

Thanks,guys. Luke, that's good to know about that drainage. I actually went down that way a little ways to check it out. But I didn't go too far because I didn't want have to climb back up to the ridge with my eight pound water bag. ;-)

I this the drainage you had in mind Dondo? I'm pretty sure I remember there was a good amount of water here.

Good thinking, Luke. Taking water from either the McCurdy Creek or Sand Creek drainage was given careful consideration. Ultimately, carrying water from McCurdy Park had more to do with expected photographic opportunities than minimization of effort.

Based on the weather patterns over the previous two days, I had a hunch that the clouds would be great that afternoon.

Since I hadn't seen a patch of snow on the entire trip, I expected to have to hike a ways down either drainage to find water, thereby missing a good hunk of the show up among the granite formations and the clouds. The hunch paid off and Mother Nature rewarded me with one of the best cloud shows I've seen in a while.

Makes sense to me, I assumed you know your way around that area just fine but I thought it would hurt to check. Great pictures by the way, I'd haul 8 pounds of water for a site like that. I don't normally carry a lot of water which I like but that has me camping near creeks which tend to be in valleys. I think I might just carry my dromidary empty in case I want to do what you did.

Great photos as always. I started reading the report, not really knowing where Lost Creek was, but WOW! Partway through I decided I'll have to figure out where it is and put it on my list.
