Friggin' Great. on 06/22/2010 23:04:53 MDT Print View

I was bored this morning so I went out and got myself a hairline fracture and sprain in my left wrist at the skatepark. Not mention a chipped tooth and bruised chin :)

The doctor gave me the option of a cast or splint...I've been there plenty of times; cast= less pain, faster healing, more activity, and a royal PITA just trying to shower and live life...
splint= more pain, NO SKATEBOARDING :( less activity, but no worries about getting wet.

I'm sticking with the splint- I've had it with showering with plastic bags on...

Now I'm wondering how well my 7 day Lost Coast yo-yo is going to work while one-armed. I leave on July 1st...I guess I'll just have to see about the pain when I get there...

Skate and Destroy.

So what do you want to be when you grow up? :)

Let's see... if the kids went with you, they were wearing wrist protection right? When Joyce and I rollerblade, we wear those awful wrist protectors and knee pads. Yeah, this old fart rollerblades too.

Hope you can still do the trip.

Hey Craig,

Godspeed on your healing process! I'm pumped for you that it was only your wing you busted up and not your leg or foot, because your trailrunning and hiking would've taken a screeching halt and that just plain sucks, especially in June.

By the way, speaking of trail running, what's your prediction for Western this weekend? All my money is on Anton assuming he doesn't implode getting wreckless.

Casts are for suckers!

I've been there, had a fracture on my upper radius... fortunately it wasn't bad enough for a cast. But that was the end of my skating career!

There is no prize for departing the land of the living and leaving a good looking corpse behind. Live hard and use your soul's shell. I say skate on! Hope your hike goes well too.

I'm healing fast and feeling better every day. It's all good.

I'll just be pushing my trip back a week and going as planned.

Eugene- Sorry for the late response, I've been out in the desert. Krupicka came in second! Damn, I was rooting for him too. I'm psyched he beat Kilian Jornet though!

Me Too! Couple Suggestions on 06/29/2010 11:24:14 MDT Print View

Craig I feel your pain early this month I broke my wrist too which is why I now have time to post old trip reports etc. I was working a ropes course swing and tried to grab a particpant to slow her down. I grabbed too soon and her momentum flipped me up horizontal and I flew over a bit of a cliff. I now have a fractured radius, some metal hardware in my wrist and a nice scar on my nose.

As far as hiking this way I have to take it easy but I've been told that simply walking is okay. The main concern is to not overheat and let things swell. This is important for me since I had an actual surgery you might not have too worry as much if you didn't have surgery. My physical therapist gave me an elastic sleave to wear under the splint. Its supposed to act like an ace bandage and prevent swelling.
Let me know how your hiking goes and if I get out this week I'll try and let you know what worked for me.
